Welcome to our course blog!

Please post a brief introduction about yourself to our blog team members. (Suggestions - the name you'd like us to use, where you live, what you do for a living (if you are working right now), why you are enrolled in this course, and what is your favorite technology tool right now)

  1. Hello everyone. My name is Diana Dunn and I work in the Fairmont State University School of Education. Some of you will know my name from working with you in selecting graduate courses. I'm taking this course because I find that if I don't take a class occasionally, I get stagnant. I live in Fairmont with my husband, my dog and cat. Our children are grown so I won't bore you with details about them. My favorite piece of technology right now is my new touch screen laptop. It's been a while since I've had a technology class so I'm probably not as up on everything as you all are, but have patience with me and I'll try really hard.

  3. Hello everybody! My name is Marlisa Lake. I am a first semester graduate student pursuing a degree in Digital Media, New Literacies & Learning. I am currently working in the athletics department here at Fairmont State. I also reside here in Fairmont with my boyfriend and our new golden retriever puppy, Oliver. My favorite technology tool would have to be my Nook (e-reader). I'm an avid reader, and the ease of use has fueled my reading obsession even more! In many ways, I think the innovative e-readers make reading more attractive to the younger generations-so it's a win in my book. (No pun intended.) (:

    1. Marlisa,
I’m so excited about your interest in e-readers! I implemented a mini-action research project on the use of e-readers in the classroom. I received two small grants to purchase 12 e-readers for my 5th grade class while teaching in WV. This research opened the door to attending and presenting at local, state and national conferences. My research proved that interest level in reading soared while students used e-readers. After students read stories on the e-readers, they posted book reviews and book reports on our class blog! I’m currently raising money on the Digital Wish site to obtain 5 Kindle Fire devices for my elementary students at Altama Elementary, GA.

    2. Your action research project is such an excellent idea! Connecting to the students' world usually proves very effective in learning experiences. I love the idea of the book reports on the class blog-very innovative. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Hola fellow classmates my name is Walesca Marrero and I am in this class because I work with digital media and love to try new techniques with technology. I live in Grafton and currently work as the director for a non profit Taylor County Collaborative Family Resource Network. I really like my job because it gives me the flexibility to work with our school system in many different ways besides being confined to a classroom. I am an apple geek my IPAD, IPhone are my favorite tech tools. I can use them to work, play or read where ever I am. I do like some of the Toshiba stuff but all in all I have to go with Apple.

  6. Walesca,
I’m a fan of Apple too. My ipad and iphone seem to always be in my presence. I hope you will share with the class some ideas for non-profit organization grants/funding. I recently attended a grant writing workshop in Savannah, GA. I recognized the non-profit organization attendees as highly motivated individuals.

  9. Hello, my name is Adam Hamrick, you can call me Adam. I am the science teacher at Harrison County Alternative Learning Center - Transitional High School (HCALC - THS) and we service students that are transitioning to or from a placement facility and the students from Harrison County's five high schools that would be expelled, but the school system has them in an alternative education setting based on discipline and their educational needs. We transition them back into the general school population after a one or two semester stay at our school. I have been married to my wife for six months now and we are in the process of buying our first home! This semester will be an exciting one with all the new changes in my life and this is my last semester before I earn my master's degree through FSU. I have enrolled in this course to round-out my course work and my favorite technology tools is the PC/projector in the classroom.

  11. Hello! My name is Michael Gallimore and I am in my second semester of the MAT at Fairmont State. My undergraduate degree is in history, but I am a huge fan of the arts and a previous theatre major at FSU. I love school, and I am really excited to enter into the online learning environment with you all! I am currently living in Morgantown, WV, but I am originally from the southern part of the state. Aside from being a student, I work at Dick's Sporting Goods at the University Town Centre in Morgantown. I enrolled into the class after having a previous educational technology class last semester, and I wanted to further my knowledge on the subject. As far as my favorite technology tool, I would have to go with 3D printers. It's a fascinating piece of technology, which I believe could vastly change the future. If you don't know much about 3D printers, I strongly encourage you to do a google search on subject. Very neat stuff!
I hope everyone has a great semester!
    Thanks,
    Michael Gallimore

  12. Michael,
I appreciate your enthusiasm. I do not have personal experience with 3D printers, but I did Google the subject as you suggested, very interesting! I hope you will share meaningful ways to integrate the use of a 3D printer in the classroom!
