Marlisa,
I absolutely agree with reform strategies. Too often, the one-shot workshops never get
past that, the one-time introduction. It’s
easy to attend workshops and feel highly motivated by the material presented. Unfortunately,
without support and mentorship many professional development strategies are
never implemented in the classroom. Your
idea of providing an online format to allow teachers to preview or become
familiar with the professional development being offered is a great plan, this
will allow actual time to practice strategies and ask questions during team
meetings. Working out hectic schedules
can be challenging. Many schools have
grade level or content based team planning in the daily schedule. Some teachers
do not want to give up their planning periods, but if the material being presented
is relevant, there is hope for success.
